Sperry is the brand that invented and created the first ever ‘Boat’ shoe. Inspired by Paul Sperry’s cocker spaniel, Prince, running across ice and snow while maintaining his footing. Paul Sperry discovered that his dog’s paw had hundreds of tiny cracks and cuts going in different directions over it.

It was this that led to the development of Sperry’s renowned Razor-Siping sole production technique that is coveted in the design of ‘Boat’ shoes. Offering a uniquely simply and stylised appearance, ‘Boat’ shoes are hugely popular and a well known form of shoe loved all over the world.

From the beginning Sperry have been obsessed with quality, their footwear is built for a purpose, this originally being for marine-wear as the soles of the shoes are designed to offer greater traction to the deck of a boat. Although Sperry Shoes originally made for a purpose, ‘Boat’ shoes soon became popular as a fashion item and Sperry were one of the coolest brands to be seen in.
